Creamy Flan Recipe

Coming from a Latin family, this is one of the desserts that my whole family knows and loves.

Hopefully, there is no one out there that doesn't know what Flan is, but if there is you are totally missing out, this rich creamy dessert is must know! and the best part is that is super easy to prepare. Follow my easy step by step instructions to perfect this delicious dessert.

While here in Egypt, they have their own ways of making this dessert which they call Creme Caramel, its nice but for me, the Egyptian recipe for this Flan has more of a jelly feeling rather than rich and creamy. So yes I prefer the Latin way of making Flan. Even my mother-in-law always compliments my Flan, she loves it.

Important Points

  • Do Not stir your caramel at all!

  • Condensed milk makes this Flan super creamy! Don't have any at home? make some right now use my Condensed Milk Recipe.

  • Use a blender instead of a hand whip for better results.

  • Don't grease your baking pan or bundt pan, it is not required to grease your pan at all, and don't worry it will come out perfect.

  • You must bake this in a water bath. Baño Maria (in Spanish)

  • Do NOT skip cooling it in the fridge for at least 2 to 3 hours. Your flan will hold up better since it gets firm in the fridge plus the texture becomes thicker and creamier.

  • Run a knife around the edges of your baking pan before flipping it.

Step By Step Instructions

  1. Start with making the caramel, add the water and sugar, and do NOT stir this at all! I don't know if you guys have made caramel before but stirring causes the sugar to crystalize sticking to the spoon and not melting properly (it's a mess) so make sure to add the water then the sugar and to not touch it until its finished.

  2. Once the caramel has turned into an amber color it's ready to transfer to your un-greased baking pan, make sure to use a spatula that resists very hot temperatures, or else it will melt.

  3. Try to spread the caramel to the whole bottom of the pan quickly before it hardens.

  4. Now in a blender add the condensed milk, eggs, and vanilla and mix well.

5. Make sure you blend this super well cause you don't want pieces of egg whites in your Flan.

6. Add your milk, and mix well.

7. Add the whole flan mixture on top of the caramel.

8. Bake in a water bath, by placing the baking pan inside another one filled with hot water. Bake for 40 minutes, then let it cool and leave in the fridge for at least 2 to 3 hours (even better if you leave it the whole night)
